Artist Statement
I use a text to speech app to communicate. Often people have to wait a long time until I finished typing which can be excruciatingly a long time. The good thing about my art is that you don't have to wait for me. It is up to you, the viewers, to see what I want to say. The visual language is fascinating to me. It can speak to things that words can't say. I also discovered how it can be open to interpretation. I feel I am communicating and making connections to people that way.
I have struggled with motor challenges when I grew up. I figured out how to read and comprehend first before writing and because of that, I felt trapped. In the beginning, it was difficult for me to actually pick up a pencil. I started later than most kids. The act of drawing helped me neurologically to feel the part of my hand. It felt numb before. The more I do it, the more I felt liberated.
Painting is like an adventure, a visual diary, and a visual poetry. The loose expressive brushwork allows me to emote. Doing minimalist style formal type painting would erase all that. It is hard for me to communicate. I’m a quiet person not by choice. Painting allowed me to show you my inner self, what I know, what I feel and what I see. Even without words.
